Cost of Running for Office in the House of Representatives
The cost to run for a House of Representative seat, particularly in ‘key districts’ is outrageous. In many races political donations flowing from outside the district are more than what was donated within the districts. In the 10 most expensive 2024 House elections the total spent was $364,000,000 million, with just 38%, $134.7 million, generated from within districts. Not hardly ‘local’ elections.
The most expensive House of Representatives races were:
Arizona 1: Spent $39,000,000; $23,400,000 or 60% from outside the district
Alaska 1: Spent $38,800,000; $25,500,000 or 65% from outside the district
California 45: Spent $38,500,000; $26,600,000 or 69% from outside the district
New York 19: Spent $38,400,000; $26,300,000 or 68% from outside the district
New York 3: Spent $36,600,000; $23,500,000 or 64% from outside the district
New York 17: Spent $36,000,000; $20,700,000 or 57% from outside the district
Oregon 5: Spent $34,900,000; $22,900,000 or 65% from outside the district
California 27: Spent $34,600,000; $22,300,000 or 64% from outside the district
Virginia 7: Spent $34,200,000; $14,300,000 or 41% from outside the district
