The Biggest Threat to American Democracy Is Not Trump

While some of the actions by the Trump Administration are on the edge, or over the line of Constitutional Authority, he isn’t responsible for putting America on the verge of a true Constitutional crises that potentially could determine if we continue as a Republic/Democracy, or shift to some other form of Governance.

Trump is simply taking advantage of the opportunity we American Citizens have offered up on a silver platter. We are the reason. My fingerprints are on that platter, along with many other Americans. We Citizens have a responsibility to our ancestors, our children, grandchildren and each other to continue to build towards a more bountiful and equal future for our Country, and all those who reside here.

I’ve kept myself politically informed, have voted in every national election, 95% of local elections and openly discuss politics (while also bitching and complaining). I’ve walked in a few protest marches, occasionally written letters to elected officials, and as I said, regularly voted. But that’s where it stopped. I’ve been mostly publicly silent and rested on my voting record as my contribution to Democracy. As I’ve found out, simply voting is not enough.

Voting is critical to a robust Democracy. However voting without other actions fulfills only the basic requirement for Citizenship. (It would certainly help if the 36% of Americans that vote by ‘Not voting’, would actually let their voice be heard by casting their ballots)

Do you ignore politics because it boils your blood? Your fingerprints are on that platter.

Simply feel helpless or that your Vote doesn’t matter? Your fingerprints are on that platter.

Too busy? Forgot to vote? Your fingerprints are on that platter.

Don’t like our political system so you don’t participate? Your fingerprints are on that platter.

Upset with the ultra-partisanship, name calling, etc. so you don’t participate? Your fingerprints are on that platter.

The only way for us to clean our prints from the platter and shine it up so there is no more tarnish is 1- we have to vote, 2- we have to take some type of personal action.

Any new action we take can be a minor or major change in our approach to politics. ACTION can look and be very different for each of us:

A) If uninformed, start small and read something about politics and governance each day — even if it’s just 5 minutes. Ensure what your reading involves the side of the issues that are important to you, and the opposing viewpoints

B) Next time you get upset about an issue — email your Representative, Senator, local official to let them know your preferences. Or, call their office

C) Attend a city or county council meeting, a Representative’s town hall meeting or any other local political events

D) Run for something so you have a more direct impact on your future, or help someone else that is running for an elected position.

E) Support PROJECT 1305. This project is my Action: to inform Americans of how we are under represented and we MUST increase the size of Our House of Representatives so Our Voices are heard.

PROJECT 1305 doesn’t ask for any money or donations. It just asks for two simple things:

  1. Take 15 minutes on the website to get an understanding of why both the Republicans and Democrats froze the number of House Representatives at 435 — over 100 years ago. In violation of the Constitution!

  2. If you agree then email two friends or family about PROJECT 1305 and ask them to contact two people. That’s it. I can’t think of a simpler action than that!

If one person emails two people, and both of them email two people, than at the end of 20 days there would be 1,048,576 people that are aware.
